LET US GUIDE YOU ON THE WATER
If you enjoy a good paddle, you’ll find every possible environment and challenge here – from millpond lakes with barely a ripple to heart-pounding white water action.
We’re lucky to be surrounded by water in this region, so there’s no shortage of spots to launch your kayak. You can bring your own gear or hire what you need. Many beaches and estuaries have small businesses set up on site hiring out equipment and wetsuits for a great day on the water.
If you like a good workout, paddle directly out to sea from our 125km-long coastline. Once you’re over the initial breaking waves, you can relax in the wide open blue and enjoy paddling at your own pace. Keep an eye out for marine wildlife – there’s plenty to see and you’ll have a front row seat!
Our estuaries and sheltered harbours are also great places to paddle, as is Lake McLaren on the outskirts of Tauranga. One of our most special attractions is an evening glow worm kayak tour across the lake and up into a magical glow worm canyon. Check it out.
