ADMIRE, ASPIRE & LEARN
Te Moananui ā Toi ׀ Coastal Bay of Plenty has a rich cultural heritage and lively art scene that will engage, entertain and inspire you.
Our region is home to 35 different iwi, 260 hapū and hundreds of marae stretching right across our coastline from Waihī Beach to Ohope. Our Māori and European roots are deeply entwined yet each culture has its distinct stories, cultural traditions and history that is preserved and shared with locals and visitors alike.
Creativity can be found everywhere – from the large-scale painted murals that adorn Katikati’s streets to the vibrant graffiti art that has transformed empty walls in Tauranga’s CBD. Musicians and artists have made places like the Historic Village and the Jam Factory their own, and small town galleries showcase the masterpieces that are created in people’s homes and backyards every day.
We invite you to explore the Bay’s art, culture and heritage so you can deepen your understanding of our past, and get excited for what is to come as our region continues to grow and evolve.
