EMBRACE CREATIVITY
Talent knows no bounds and we are lucky to have some of the best creative minds in the country and a range of quirky markets and galleries to admire and buy their wares.
Browsing art and craft markets has become a major pastime in Te Moananui ā Toi ׀ Coastal Bay of Plenty and such markets are held regularly throughout the year. Here you’ll find the most eclectic range of handmade, hand-sewn, handprinted or hand-knitted goods. Artisan soaps, jewellery, children’s clothes, toys, ceramics, pottery, watercolour paintings, mandala cloths, beeswax wraps and designer pet accessories – you name it, someone in the Bay of Plenty will make it.
Our love of all things crafty also extends to our city streets. In Greerton, Tauranga, a yarn-bombing festival is held each year where the local cherry trees are decorated in knitted and crocheted ‘sleeves’ as local textile artists let their imaginations run wild. Previous creations have ranged from famous Kiwi icons to depicting native birds and fauna.
A number of community groups gather regularly to pursue art and craft hobbies and newcomers are always welcome to join in the fun.
