This large shopping centre is home to some of the biggest stores in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. You’ll find over 10 national retail chains here offering furniture, appliances, homeware, fashion, sports equipment, garden products and more.
When you drive into Whakatane along SH30 from the Western Bay of Plenty or inland from Rotorua, you can’t miss ‘The Hub’.
Just before you reach the bridge to cross over the Whakatane River, you’ll see this outdoor shopping centre on your right-hand side.
The Hub is home to some of the Eastern Bay of Plenty’s biggest retail stores and covers a whopping 24,000m² of shopping space.
This is where you’ll find some of New Zealand’s biggest national chain stores. Shop for homeware, furnishings and electrical goods in Harvey Norman; treat yourself to some new sports gear and equipment at Rebel Sport; or find affordable and stylish homeware at Briscoes.
Farmers and Kmart both have department stores here, alongside home improvement giant Bunnings Warehouse.
If you’re after new clothes or shoes, be sure to visit Postie Plus and Number One Shoe Warehouse. And if you need new electrical appliances or floor coverings, Bay Betta Electrical and Carpet Court have everything you need.
At The Hub you’ll find a wide range of products for your home, holiday and family life. All of these national retail chains have big sales from time to time, so you should be able to snap up a bargain or two.
More than 900 free carparks are also available at The Hub and a Columbus Coffee café is on site for refreshments in between shops. Enjoy a light snack or a full meal while you review your latest purchases.
The Hub has transformed this former timber mill site into a shopping mecca. It’s just a short five minute drive into Whakatane’s CBD from here, and an easy 1 to 1.5 hour drive from anywhere else in the coastal Bay of Plenty if you fancy making a day trip.
